The contest season has started.
This time it was Humorous Speech and Table Topics that were the challenges. The first step to qualify for the European Championship in Humorous Speech and Table Topics is to participate in a club contest. The winner will go forward to Area, and those winners will compete in the Division, Suisse-Romande Championship and ultimately the winners will go to the District contest. There are many steps to reach the goal and many comfort zones to stretch.
Lakeshore Speakers’ members decided to participate and we had our first official contest last Monday.
Roswitha and Caroline did an outstanding job to prepare for the contest. Contestants were given and advised in time of the official contest documents to fill in and bring to the event. Contest Chair, Judges, Ballot counters, Timers and Sergeant at Arms received necessary information and training in order to conduct their roles. Everyone received a copy of the latest version of the contest rulebook.
It was a fabulous learning experience for all the participants.
Judges needed to learn how to judge a contest speaker. The timers needed to pay attention to timing and record this precisely. Ballot counters learned how to collect ballots and count the votes. Everything was superbly supervised by our Chief Judge Mario. Our Contest Chair, Lucia, learned that there is a precise protocol to follow. This includes the exact wording how to present each contestant and how the meeting must follow a precise agenda, including rules for when to applaud a contestant and how to manage silence for judging.
All the role-takers took their roles seriously and I hope learned a lot.
Margaux leaped ahead to the First Place in Humorous Speech.
Alexis took with ease the First Place in Table Topics.
They will represent our club in the Area Contest in Lausanne on the 18th October.
You make the Lakeshore Speakers the BEST TOASTMASTERS CLUB ever!
Continue to be BOLD; COURAGEOUS AND BRILLIANT!
